Texas RB Vondrell McGee Ruled Ineligible for 2010

Texas RB Vondrell McGee

In a somewhat surprising move by the NCAA today, they denied the appeal by Texas RB Vondrell McGee to his current academic suspension.

Details have been sketchy at best, but apparently McGee’s grade point average was in question, not his total hours or current academic standing. Nonetheless, after sitting out of the burnt orange and white uniform for the first two games this year, it appears McGee will end it on the sidelines as well.

It remains to be seen whether McGee will return for next season, since he will still have a year of eligibility remaining, even though he is on track to graduate in December 2010.

You’ve got to wonder, though – will McGee look at the ‘Horns depth chart at RB, especially with the new talent coming on board in 2011, and having little NFL potential, call his career as a Longhorn as good as done? I’d guess yes, especially since he’ll be a year behind the three-man starting rotation Mack Brown and team are using to-date in 2010.

Surely, there will be more to come on this story down the road. Best of luck to McGee as he sorts out his academic issues this fall.
