It sounds like the rumors were true – on Wednesday, Texas announced it has hired Mississippi State defensive coordinator Manny Diaz to fill the same role at Texas.
Diaz is a name that, surprisingly, came up only recently in the rumor mill that is Texas sporting circles. But, the young coach has produced stellar results and turnaround for players in the Sun Belt, SEC, and ACC conferences. His previous stints include Florida State (where he coached under Mickey Andrews), North Carolina State, Middle Tennessee State, and most recently Mississippi State. More on Diaz’s coaching history can be found here.
All told, this is a solid hire for Mack Brown and the Longhorns, and fills a big void in the coaching staff heading in to the final weeks of the 2010-2011 recruiting season.
